October 2015 – Sara Barker

Sara Barker is the Design and Craft coordinator for the Diploma Foundation Studies in Art and Design at Colchester School of Art. She has lived in Wivenhoe for ten years and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally since first graduating in 1991.

In her jewellery silver and nylon are combined to create delicately structured pieces. The nylon’s colours are mixed and dyed by hand to create beautifully subtle hues or striking colour contrasts.

Sara talks about her work and sources of inspiration here:

Wivenhoe provides me with good light and open spaces whilst the estuary brings a sense of calm – but it is my travels through built up town and cityscapes, observing construction sites and new developments that feed my sketching and making.

The man-made environment always offers up new and dynamic shapes, forms and lines that I explore via materials such as silver, nylon, aluminium and paper.

Sara’s show will continue until 20th November.
