July 2016 – Jane Watson

Artist Jane Watson

Artist Jane Watson

Jane works locally as a gardener and can often be seen up and down the village with her lawnmower in the back of her car.  However, her main passion is painting. She talks about her work here:

My artistic style has developed through trial and error, as I have had no formal training as an artist.  I’ve discovered along the way what I really like to do. I have been happy to find that others like my work, and have been supported and encouraged by people who have asked to buy my pictures.

A few years ago I began transforming my painting style from mostly abstract to a style characterised as ‘naive’. I initially imagined this a slur until I discovered other ‘naive’ artists such as Alfred Wallis!  I love that style.

What I like most about being a small part of the large and diverse world of art and creativity is that there are no rules.  I enjoy experimenting with new styles, media, colours and ideas, and finding out for myself what works and what doesn’t.

I am delighted to be exhibiting at Wivenhoe’s smallest gallery.”
