May 2017 – Richard Hayward

Photographer Richard Hayward’s work will be showing at the Over the Sofa Gallery during May.

Richard’s passion is black & white photography. The rich dark tones of his prints are testament to the appreciation he has for and the continual influence of photographer Bill Brandt in his work.

His contemporary compositions concentrate on texture and form, evoking a distilled empathy for his subject.

By focusing on simple, honest details the viewer is invited to appreciate the tactile qualities of the world around us, in ways that are often overlooked.

His riverside home in Wivenhoe offers new photographic possibilities on each new tide and coastal imagery constantly features in his work, reinforcing his love of waterside living.

Two photographs from the recent ‘Tales of the Riverbank’ exhibition, now on show at Maison Talbooth, Dedham, ‘The Dying Embers’ and ‘The Swan’ are held in the ‘East Contemporary Art Collection of 21st Century Practice’ at University Campus Suffolk in Ipswich.

Richard is also an accomplished lifestyle portrait and wedding photographer, working in a relaxed and informal style.
