We’re delighted to be showing photographer Miranda Campbell’s work at the gallery during February. Be sure to drop in and browse through her books and enjoy the photographs she has taken in Cuba, Myanmar and Japan.

She talks about her work here:

‘I have always been a traveller. Being born and brought up in East Africa and the Solomon Islands, the threads of my childhood were inextricably woven into a vibrant tapestry of colour, excitement and anticipation – every new country, or town or village is a new chapter to look forward to in my travels.

Susan Sontag said ‘The camera makes everyone a tourist in other people’s reality, and eventually in one’s own.’ However, I think I prefer Marcel Proust’s suggestion that – ‘The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.’

The photographs and books I have on display in the Over the Sofa Gallery, I hope, capture the beauty and simplicity I found in other countries and cultures, and reflect the wonder of the natural world that is all around us.’
