May 2018 – Sandrine Singleton-Perrin
Sandrine Singleton-Perrin’s beautiful textiles will be on show at the gallery during May. She talks about her work here:
‘I’ve been living in Wivenhoe for over 20 years and teaching at the University. I have been creating textile art for two or three years. The pieces showing in the bookshop gallery are machine embroidered and hand-stitched using techniques I’ve learned from inspiring textile artist Alex Waylett. Free machine embroidery feels like a completely natural medium for me.
I have always loved vibrant colours and been a collector of fabric. I probably owe this habit to my Italian grandmother, who was a seamstress and hoarder of fabric and beautiful laces, which she secretly kept in her wardrobes!
I hope you enjoy the exhibition and its splash of colours.’
