Artist Christine Shirley was born in East Anglia. She has lived for many years in South and West London, and spent five years in the Berkshire countryside. She visits Wivenhoe regularly.

Christine has a degree in Fine Art, specialising in Sculpture. Her post graduate studies included Teaching and Art Therapy training at Goldsmiths College, and life drawing under Hugh Casson at the Royal Academy of the Arts.

She has exhibited widely, including shows in London, Montmartre, Paris, and Colchester.

She talks about her work here:

Artist Christine Shirley

“I have explored a number of themes over the years, including portraits, live scenes at music events, colour and music, flowers, animal portraits, scenery based in England and Greece. I work in a variety of media, but have recently chosen to abstain from use of plastic materials such as the popular acrylic paints because ecology is one of my great interests.

I have enjoyed many years of fascinating work helping people and youngsters to engage with their creative side, finding the joy of self-expression and healing. I have worked in education in London, and spent 20 years in Greece as an Art Therapy workshop leader in Skyros.

I now spend most of my time gardening, spending time with my aged mother, working with local schools and community groups, and on music composition and art commissions.”
