About the Book

Mary Seacole is now known for her medical work in the Crimean war, and as a brilliant woman who combated the racial prejudice she experienced in her lifetime. But for a long time her story was lost.

From growing up in Kingston, Jamaica as the daughter of a doctress to helping soldiers in the war, discover the details of the amazing life that Mary Seacole led in this beautifully illustrated book with real-life stories, timelines and facts.

About the Author

Naida Redgrave is a writer, PhD candidate and soon-to-be Visiting Lecturer at the University of Roehampton. She won the TriForce/ C21 Writerslam 2018 with her TV drama script Wild Island, and has two additional TV series in development.

The Extraordinary Life of Mary Seacole is her second book – in 2017 her biography on Shonda Rhimes was published in the United States by Enslow. In addition to highlighting lesser known figures through biographical writing, she enjoys exploring themes of identity, race and mental health through her work.
