This timely and inclusive volume collated, edited and translated by Jean Boase-Beier and Marian de Vooght, presents poems in languages less often associated with the Holocaust. The authors in this innovative anthology belong to one or several of the many groups persecuted by the Nazis because of their political beliefs, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability.

Marian de Vooght

Marian de Vooght is an academic and literary translator. Her poetry translation of Guus Luijters’ Song of Stars(2018, Smokestack), recently received a PEN award. 

She is a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Government at the University of Essex, and her research focuses on political aspects of literature and canonization. Marian has previously worked at the universities of East Anglia, Konstanz and Trondheim, and has a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Texas at Austin and an MA in Dutch Language and Literature from the University of Nijmegen.

Jean Boase-Beier

Professor Jean Boase-Beier studied English and Linguistics at the University of Regensburg, Germany, where she also lectured in Linguistics and German. She taught Literary Translation, Linguistics, German and Stylistics at UEA and set up UEA’s MA in Literary Translation.

A former Executive Committee member of the British Comparative Literature Association, former member of the Advisory Panel of the British Centre for Literary Translation,  and former Executive Committee member of the Translators Association, she is also a translator between German and English and the editor of the Visible Poets series of bilingual poetry books.
