April 2012 Julia Vezza

"Window Dreams no 1" 2008 by Julia Vezza.

During the month of April, artist Julia Vezza’s work will be showing in the gallery. Julia talks about her life and work:

‘Although I am originally from Essex, I have spent my working life in London teaching art in schools, adult education centres, and prisons. For the last twenty years I have divided my time between England and Spain, settling in Wivenhoe in 2009.

This painting is one of the last two final pieces painted in Spain. I have produced a number of works dealing with reflections in windows and mirrors and their potential to distort and mix to create another reality.

This painting Window Dreams starts from the juxtaposition of what was in front of me, looking through my window, and by looking ‘at’ rather than through the window, the reflection of what was behind me. The two become absorbed into the whole. What is in front, ‘the future’and what is behind ‘the past’, becoming the now.’
