June 2011 – Helen Lee
Over the Sofa gallery featured artist during June will be artist Helen Lee, the shop’s brilliant window artist who has recently achieved some well deserved recognition for her work – Helen comes to us fresh from featuring in the BBC 2 art reality show, ‘Show Me The Monet’.
In the show a panel of three renowned art experts on a “Hanging Committee” searched for great art from amateurs and professionals alike for a prestigious exhibition, to be held at the Royal College of Art.
Members of the public were able to bring their artwork along for candid feedback from the Hanging Committee and the chance to get their work into the exhibition.
The Committee put their reputations on the line, so only the best art work made it through to the big day, when members of the art establishment, and the public, couldview, critique and buy the work selected.
In an exciting twist, the art was sold by “blind bid” and potential buyers were allowed to bid much higher, or indeed lower, than the reserve price. We’re proud to say that Helen’s work ‘The Birthday Party’, pictured right, was selected unanimously for the RCA show, and achieved far in excess of it’s reserve price through the auction. Well done Helen – we knew you’d do it!
Helen’s pice, ‘Giraffes at Felixstowe’ will be showing in the gallery until July.
